Week 5 review

 

On Thursday, we learnt about the importance of a claim and supporting evidence in an argumentative essay.  Subsequently, we learnt about paraphrasing, and how to effectively paraphrase a given piece of text. We were given worksheets in which we had to paraphrase the given paragraphs using the various strategies of translation such as changing the word order, replacing the words with their synonyms, changing the parts of speech etc. 

In the next class, we learnt about plagiarism. There are three types of plagiarism - direct, indirect and self-plagiarism. As citing sources is one of the ways to avoid plagiarism, we had a look at the different types of citations, such as MLA, APA, Chicago etc. Since our course made use of the APA citation format, we learnt about APA citation in detail.
